We have many presentations, activities, and hikes at the Dark-Sky festival focused on nature, especially at night, but not exclusively. This year, one of our speakers will be Keith Newton, a fantastic Nature photographer, among other things, who will share how he captures stunning photos of the small creatures that inhabit the nighttime environment, like these grasshoppers frozen in time.
Our featured speakers will be Roger Mangham and Mike Slay of the Arkansas Nature Conservancy, who will tell us all about the critters of the night. Ken Foreman, a retired Arkansas Game and Fish Commission educator and interpreter, will explain how birds navigate. Have you ever hunted fireflies? Grace Lovett will share that experience, and Lochan Morian will share her personal adventure from community college student to science outreach volunteer with North West Arkansas Space.
This is not all: nature walks, other talks, Stella’s Outdoor Lighting Academy, live solar observing, kids’ games, and, of course, the Summer Milky Way under one of Arkansas’s darkest skies.
What do you have to do that is more interesting and stimulating this next weekend (Oct. 2nd and 3rd)? Interested? Visit our website and check out the links for where to stay, that is if you don’t want to camp on site.
